Coates 1989 HOLDSHOTT, farm in Heckfield and hundred Old English 'holan scietan'='(at the) angle or nook in a hollow'. At the far eastern end of Heckfield parish, but there is no obvious reason for the first element. One might imagine the bed of the river Whitewater as running in a slight hollow or gate between rising land in Heckfield and Hazeley. |
